Marion’s own “Dr. Dolittle,” Commissioner Mark Davis, officially endorsed Ben Weber for the 86th District State Rep race.
Dr. Dolittle, as you may or may not know, serves on the Marion County Republican Central Committee. He’s actually the guy who helped announce Weber’s campaign on July 2nd–less than two months after Weber graduated law school.

At the same time he was introducing Ben to the world of politics, he was trying to finagle his appointment as the new Director of Economic Development–a joint venture between Marion County and the City of Marion that didn’t pan out because of financial problems in both the county and city.
On June 30th, when describing why he wanted to resign as commissioner after serving half of his elected first term, Dr. Dolittle was quoted as saying:
“What does it take to fill your cup? What’s it take to get you to be motivated to get out of bed every morning, hop in the shower, and aggressively go after the day. That’s what I’m looking for in life. I want to be motivated. I want to be passionate. Right now, I just don’t feel like I have I’ve got that passion, that motivation, every single day. But I think if I was working for both the city and the county in business development, that would fill Mark’s cup.”
Apparently doing the job he was elected to do just didn’t fill ole Dr. Dolittle’s cup.
But that didn’t stop him from using his commissioner role to prop up Ben, did it?
Fast forward to the 31st of December 2025.
Dr. Dolittle was one of two of the three Marion County Commissioners who voted in favor of passing a 2026 budget that contained a $4.5 deficit.
When asked about the county’s financial problems, Dr. Dolittle shrugged his shoulders and said, “I don’t know why we spent money we don’t have.”
He’s not a financial expert, folks. He’s admitted as much.
“I’m not the financial wizard that I probably should be…finance is not one of my strongest areas,” he said.
Well, Dr. Dolittle, it doesn’t take a financial wizard to realize that when the county is engaged in unprecedented hiring and spending over the past five years, pretty soon it’s going to have budget problems.
Thank God Dr. Dolittle, who entered office in January 2023, decided not to run for a second term. He clearly lacks judgment, financial prowess, and good old fashioned common sense.
His cup wasn’t filled as commissioner and his cup won’t be filled as Director of Economic Development.
It appears, however, that his cup is filled by Ben Weber.
Or, perhaps, his cup is being filled by the same GOP Elite and lobbyists who are filling ole Ben’s cup and financing his campaign.
